| Beginnings |
| DeHaven started running early, completing a 15-mile road race at age 10. In eighth grade, he ran 4:41 and 10:00, and by his senior year he held state records in both the 1600 and 3200. "I started training harder at South Dakota State," he says. "I was running with older, more mature training partners. They had seen other phenoms not get through the gates. I learned I had to work hard to get to the next level." DeHaven earned his degree in computer science and works part-time as a computer programmer; married to Shelli; three children: Addison (born 1996), Graham (born 1998), and Quinn (born 2001). |
